What do u see in this pic? Me? I see a comeback story.
This story is rich with words like: hope, remembering, anxiety, uncertainty, joy, thankfulness, grit, pain, determination, comeback. This story spans 2 years…honestly it goes back much farther than that, but that’s another post for another day. This pic is about comebacks and next steps.
I’ve been camped out in Lamentations 3 in a million areas of my life right now. Calling on God for hope and newness and relief in lots of painful places swirling around me. But every time I read about these new mercies (Lamentations 3:22-24), my eyes drift to the words just above that comforting section to these words: “My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope.” (emphasis mine)
Back to this pic…over the past 2 years we wondered if Braeden would ride a bike again, if he’d regain use of his arm, if the remembering of it all would be too much for him even if his arm was functional. Today the remembering is there, but so is the hope. They can coexist, i’m learning.
Today is the last ride of training camp. In August he races the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race for the first time since his wreck in 2017. When he lines up on that starting line i’m sure i’ll be remembering. But even in the remembering, i can look on this comeback with the reminder that every tough part of this journey was laced with hope.
For all the dark places u are remembering or drowning in, i hope u will remember this pic. A pic of hope…of comebacks and next steps…of a hard road, but a deep, rich, good road at that. REMEMBERING+HOPE. They go hand-in-hand.
Where are the places of struggle you cant stop remembering? Mercy and hope doesnt wait for the forgetting, it’s there even in the worst of times.
What words would you use to describe what you are hoping for during this season? Tell Him every word…and lean in on what you can know regardless of how you feel.
19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
the wormwood and the gall!
20 My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
21 But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;Lamentations 3:19-24 (ESV)
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
